Walter J. Crinnion. ND

Walter J. Crinnion ND graduated with the first class at what is now, Bastyr University (then called the John Bastyr College of Naturopathic Medicine) in Seattle, Washington in 1982. While there, he had the privilege to have Dr. Bastyr, Dr. Bill Mitchell and Dr. Joe Pizzorno as teachers, mentors and, ultimately friends. Naturopathic medicine is based upon a handful of principles that include: Treat the cause, the healing power of nature and doctor as teacher. He embraced all of the principles and soon began to explore why some patients were not getting better when safe and powerful natural healing techniques were used. He soon realized that the cause of some illnesses were due to an overload of environmental toxicants. Since no one had begun to teach this aspect of medicine in medical schools, he began to search diligently through all the published medical journals and medical conferences to find answers.

Now in his third decade of practice he is considered one of the leading experts in the field of environmental medicine. He started the environmental medicine classes at Bastyr University, University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine, and the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM). At SCNM, he received an appointment as professor in 2003 and was able, with the help of a generous grant from Al and Kelly Czap, to start the department of Environmental Medicine which he chaired until 2013. Since 1999 he has been providing six-month training courses for licensed healthcare providers who wish to become more proficient in environmental medicine. He founded the Naturopathic Association of Environmental Medicine, a specialty board for practitioners in this field that sets standards of care and provides board certification in this area. Dr. Crinnion continues to lecture across North America and Europe at medical conferences where he is a sought-after speaker.

His first book: Clean, Green and Lean was published by Wiley & Sons in 2009, and is an excellent overview of environmental medicine and how to lower your burden of environmental toxicants and regain your health. He was a guest on ABC’s The View three times with Barbara Walters in 2001, talking about toxic compounds in our everyday environments and how to protect ourselves. Dr. Crinnion was also asked by the Huffington Post to be a blogger on their site, providing all of their readers with current and accurate information about health and the environment. He as an associate editor of the environmental medicine section of the journal, Alternative Medicine Review, and has been appointed to the editorial review boards of the New England Journal of Medicine, Pharmaceutical Biology, Science of the Total Environment and the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health. Dr. Crinnion has also authored over 25 articles that have been published in peer- reviewed journals (available on PubMed). He has also helped to create laboratory panels that have become the standard of care for detecting environmentally–induced illnesses and has also turned his prodigious talent toward making unique dietary supplements that are some of the most active and powerful supplements available in the market to date.
