Today is National Cancer Survivor’s Day.
All of us here at NS would like to take the time to recognize all of the fighters that belong to our community. It is an honor and incredibly humbling to work so closely with all of you during the various stages of your journey as well as to be considered your trusted choice for provision of your health care. It’s no secret that a cancer diagnosis can change one’s life in an instant. So, for someone just beginning their survivor’s journey or someone that has been traveling the road for some time, there are many resources available to provide support. We’ve listed some of them below to help you start your own resource cache.
The Cancer Support Community of AZ, formerly known as The Wellness Center, is a group that offers services to friends, family and survivors at any stage. Programs range from education and exercise to lifestyle activities.
If you are looking for a women’s group, Lanie Smith, MPS, ATR uses the medium of art to help her clients resolve emotions linked to experiences like having a cancer diagnosis and more.
Prosthetics and wig fittings can be emotional and overwhelming. Tina’s Treasures cancer care boutique is located in the Virginia G. Piper Center located at Honor Health, what was formerly known as the Shea campus of Scottsdale Healthcare. They offer kind and helpful service and quality wigs and prosthetics.
Our own Dr. Lise Alschuler helps support, educate and treat patients not only in her private practice at NS, but through her website and weekly radio show Five to Thrive. This is a wonderfully helpful and heartfelt resource that can help you on many levels. Dr. Alschuler and her co-Author, Karolyn Gazella have put together a full package of resources for you.
Clinical hypnotherapy can be very beneficial for everything from helping manage pain to coping with lifestyle changes and emotions associated with a caner diagnosis.
Also, do not forget to check out the many healthy restaurants available in the greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. When you don’t feel like chopping any more vegetables or feel that you just need someone else to do the cooking. Focus on places that focus on locally grown, organic and non-GMO ingredients.
Where would a resource page be without a reminder about exercise? Exercise is a critical part of a wellness or treatment journey but you need to be careful when selecting an activity because some health concerns or conditions require special oversight. Use care when exercising. If you have any questions about what may be safe for you please do come into the clinic and speak with your physician. Some exercise guidelines here are good to consider for any type of diagnosis or treatment that you are receiving.
Also, did you know that there are a lot of support services available here at Naturopathic Specialists? Our doctors and practitioners are able to do so much more than provide integrative and naturopathic protocols or manage conventional medicine side effects. Some of our service offerings are listed below.
Grief recovery programs
Specialty diet programs including NS’s very own: Life Diet
Post treatment management
Personalized prevention of recurrence protocols
Again, NS is so proud to be a part of your healthcare journey and we deeply thank you for your trust in us.
